American Farmer

...is switching parties.  That gives the Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

We are good and truly screwed.

In 1994, the filibuster saved us from a huge mistake, and paved the way for 12 years of Republican dominance.  Not that those 12 years were entirely rosy, but when you look at them with nationalized health care on both ends, they look pretty damn good.

Now, there’s nothing in the way.  We’re looking FDR levels of political power in the face, and I have no illusions that the Supreme Court will issue even a peep in protest.

I hope for a revolt in 2010 similar to that in 1994, but I don’t know if we’ll get it.  And even so, much irreversible damage can be done between now and then.

Hang on to your hats, it’s going to be a wild ride.

  1. We’ve had a filibuster proof majority even before he did it, only now we don’t have to be responsible for him.

I keep harping on all the “reset” idealists… those who thought this would be a good thing.

How’s that working out so far?

Yeah, good thing we’ll be adding 10 trillion to the national debt (BEFORE socialized medicine gives the masses the taste for “free").  That milk will be spilt, and they’ll be no amount of Clean Up On Aisle Left to put that cork back in the bottle.

We’re royally fucked and have been since election day.  I worry not for myself, but for my children.  The pabulum of a socialist state is no way to live.  The misery will be palpable.  Having visited socialist hell holes, where even babies don’t smile, it is not the way to live.

  3. We were already screwed. He already voted with the democrats on every thing they did. Not that it matters anyway, because there is no rule of law right now. For me, that ended when Paulson and Bernake decided to give themselves dictatorial power.

  5. I saw a USA Today headline at a newsbox: “Leaving GOP, Specter Gives Dems a Boost in Stifling Dissent”

I actually stopped in my tracks.  “Stifling Dissent?” Did that “journalist” or any editor consider whether we really want our government “stifling dissent?”

I weep for our once great nation.
