Back

American Farmer

I’m back.  Sort of.

The problem with blogging is that after awhile, one feels obligated to do it.  After stressing for two weeks about not having the time to blog, I finally asked myself why I was letting this voluntary thing cause so much anxiety in my life.  Thus, the abrupt shutdown of the blog.

I’ve gotten a bit more of a handle on things at the moment.  Well, not really, given that it is now the beginning of summer and farm duties are ramping up.  But what I do have is a different perspective on blogging.  I’m going to write when I feel like it.  It could be months between posts.  It probably will be at times.

In other words, this is an essay repository, not something where I expect to have regular readers.  Bluntly, it’s for me, not you.  You are more than welcome to read, comment, etc, but for my own sanity, I have to prevent a feeling of obligation.

So with that in mind, here we go again.

Comments

  1. I subscribe to your RSS feed so I get notified when you post something new.  It isn’t like I have to come here every few hours to check.

And I’m looking forward to your being “back” in whatever posting interval works for you.

  3. I was about to say the same thing—with RSS feeds now, it’s much easier for people to just wait until you’re ready to write. smile

  5. RSS?  Is that one of those new-fangled technology things?  Maybe I ought to figure it out.

  7. American Farmer,

Your blog has always been one of quality not quantity. Please take your time and know that there are those of us out there that feel yours is a voice that needs to be heard.

  9. There are dozens of different ways you can subscribe to an RSS feed.  You can use RSS readers, but that’s not the easiest way (in my opinion).

If you use IE and MS Outlook, sites that have an RSS feed will cause the RSS button to be active.  It is the orange button on the IE toolbar (fourth button after the “home” button).  By clicking on the button it will open the feed in IE where you can subscribe to the feed.  Outlook will create a folder in your inbox and new posts will appear like emails.  The first time you subscribe you get the latest 10 posts, and then you get new ones (or anytime the author updates the latest 10).

It is computer dependent, so if you use one computer at work and one at home you’ll need to subscribe on each machine you use.

In Outlook, under Tools --> Account Settings, there is a tab for RSS feeds where you can manage the feeds to which you have subscribed.

If you don’t use IE and MS Outlook, you can subscribe to an RSS Reader (Google “RSS Reader") which is basically a site where you can setup an account and subscribe to feeds within the tool.  That’s a good solution for people who use multiple computers.  There are also free software programs you can download to do the same thing.
